Installing the Preqin for Salesforce Plugin

Preconditions

The user who is going to install the package must have System Administrator rights in Salesforce. The account must be a 'Developer Enterprise edition' account.

Installing Preqin for Salesforce

Once you’ve clicked on the correct link above, you should be directed to the page below:

1. Tick the box next to 'I acknowledge that I’m installing a Non-Salesforce Application that is not authorized for distribution as part of Salesforce’s AppExchange Partner Program’. This will enable you to then click on the 'Install' button.

2. Once you’ve clicked on 'Install', the below dialog box will appear:

3. Once the installation is completed, you’ll be automatically directed to the ‘Installed Packages’ page:

a. Here, you need to enter your credentials for the Preqin API:

b. Click on ‘Edit’ next to the ‘Preqin API’ label to set up the authentication:

c. In the ‘Authentication’ section, populate the ‘Username’ and ‘Password’ fields using the
credentials you received after activating your access to Preqin for Salesforce and click ‘Save’:

Now you’ve successfully installed the Preqin for Salesforce package.

Configure to show asset classes and datasets

If you are subscribed to all six asset classes (PE, VC, PD, RE, NR, and HF), you can skip this step.
However, if you are subscribed to five or less asset classes, please follow the remaining steps.

1. Click on the gear in top right corner and click on ‘Setup’

2. Type packages in the filter search box and click ‘installed packages’. After this click on 'Preqin Connector MVP1' in the packages table to the right.

3. Click ‘View Components’

4. Click on 'Preqin Connector Settings' in the table

5. Click on ‘Manage’

7. Untick any asset classes or firm types you are not subscribed to and then click save. Note: All items are selected by default. If asset classes or firm types that are not included in your subscription remain selected, the data will fail to load correctly. In this example, the client is only subscribed to HF and RE, so they will untick the four other asset classes.

8. Configure the connector based on which datasets you are subscribed to. Select Investor Subscription or Fund Manager Subscription; if you are subscribed to both select both boxes and then click save.

Adding Preqin for Salesforce to 'Accounts' or 'Opportunities' pages

1. Navigate to the ‘Accounts’ page via the top navigation menu and open an account:

2. Click on the gear icon in the top-right corner and select ‘Edit Page’:

3. This will open the ‘Components’ tab on the left-hand side.

4. Select the ‘Preqin Connector’ component located under the ‘Custom – Managed’
section and drag it over to the ‘Activity/Chatter’ section of the account:

5. Once the component is added, click ‘Save’:

When you return to the ‘Accounts’ page, the ‘Preqin Connector’ component will now be available on any account page.

Note: the above covers how to add Preqin for Salesforce on the ‘Accounts’ page. To add it to the ‘Opportunities’ page, simply follow the same steps in that section.

Optional: additional Preqin fields

When you create a firm or contact through the Preqin for Salesforce plugin, this will only populate your new firm or contact with standard Salesforce fields. You can view a list of such fields below:

If you want to add any additional information to your new contact or firm, not included within the standard Salesforce fields, you can do so by following the instructions below:

1. Navigate to the page (account or contact) that you would like to add additional information to. In this example, we will be using a firm. Click the gear icon and select ‘Edit Page’.

2. Search for related lists in the top-left search, click on ‘Related Lists’, and then drag it to where you would like it to appear on the page.

3. Update related lists in second drop-down to Preqin data and click ‘Save’.

4. If you wish to choose different fields to show in this list, click the gear icon in the top-right corner and click ‘Edit Object’.

5. Click ‘Page Layouts’ and choose 'Account Layout (firm)'.

6. Scroll down in the page until you see ‘Preqin Data’ and click on the wrench icon.

7. Use the add and remove arrows to add or remove data. Click ‘Ok’ once you’ve finished.

8. Lastly, click ‘Save’ to update all the changes you made to be reflected into your instance.

Set up conditional visibility for Preqin for Salesforce 'Accounts' or 'Opportunities'

Set up conditional visibility so only users with Preqin for Salesforce access can see the Preqin section on the Accounts or Opportunities pages. Navigate to any firm’s account page to begin the setup.

1. From the account page, click on the gear icon in the top-right corner and select ‘Edit Page’:

2. Click on the Preqin box, which will bring up a panel on the right to set ‘Conditional visibility’:

3. From there, follow the below steps:

Once you’ve completed all the above steps, click ‘Save’ to complete the setup of your conditional visibility for the Preqin component on account pages.

The same steps can be followed to apply the visibility to opportunity pages as well.

Optional: auto update fields for reporting

If you want to build reports and integrate the data that Preqin holds on your selected firms and contacts, simply follow the steps below to make sure all your reports have the most up-to-date Preqin data, without the need to manually refresh each time.

Preconditions

1. Your account of choice must be linked on the plugin account page.

2. You have already created a Salesforce report that is calling Preqin data into it.

Setup steps

1. Set 'AutoUpdate Time' value: Navigate to Setup > Custom Settings > Preqin Connector Settings and click ‘Manage’.

2. Click ‘Edit’.

3. Choose the time, hours, and asset class you would like to be auto updated and click 'Save'.

4. Before the auto update time begins, please go to an account page and click refresh.

a. Refresh any Account page with Preqin Connector.

b. Refresh a report page where a grid is not fully filled.

5. Navigate to Setup > Apex Job (make sure the filter is applied to all). Here you can see the status of the batch update. After refreshing the Account page with Preqin Connector, the Job Type = Scheduled Apex should be presented in Status = Queued.

6. Once all batches appear in the 'Batches Processed' column, you can click review the report to access all the updated data.

7. To check the next scheduled run, navigate to Setup > Scheduled Jobs.

Granting access to non-admin users

1. Click the gear icon and click setup.

2. Use the ‘Quick Find’ field to find the ‘Permission Sets’ page.

3. In there, click on the ‘Preqin Connector’ option to manage permission sets.

4. Click on 'Manage Assignments'.

5. And click on the 'Add Assignments' button.

6. Select users by ticking the box next to their name in the 'Action' column, and click on the 'Assign' button.

7. Next, the 'Permission set Preqin Connector has been assigned to <number of users> users' pop-up will appear for confirmation.

Remove Preqin for Salesforce from the 'Account' or 'Opportunity page'

1. Navigate to a firm or opportunity page, click the gear button, and choose ‘Edit’.

2. From here, click on the garbage can logo to remove the Preqin for Salesforce section.

3. Preqin for Salesforce will no longer show. Click ‘Save’ to save your changes.

Remove permissions from users

1. Click the gear icon and choose ‘Setup’ in the drop-down.

2. Click on ‘Users’ in the drop-down menu on the left and then ‘Permissions sets’.

3. Scroll down until you see ‘Preqin Connector’ and click on it.

4. Click the ‘Manage assignments’ button.

5. Select all users by using the top tick button, or select users one by one.

Uninstall the Preqin for Salesforce package

1. Click the gear icon and choose ‘Setup’ in the drop-down.

2. Click on ‘Apps’ in the left navigation bar, then ‘Packaging’, and 'Installed packages’.

3. Click on the Preqin Connector package name.

4. Scroll down to the footer to delete all data, where you will see:

5. See the result as shown on the below screen:

6. Refresh the current page and see the below screen. Uninstall is now complete.
